I don't actually know what the highest 24 hr total would be. I remember some seriously heavy rain in the headwaters of the Wilberforce River (east of the main divide). Ditto for the Joe (no relation) River in Northern Fiordland, spent a few miserable days under a big rock for that one.

Near Lismore in Northern NSW was another big rain. I've got a feeling that was in the 300-400mm/12-16 inch range.

Takaka, the next town over the hills, and 30 km west of here, got 520mm/21 inches in 24 hours last December. There was only 45 mm/1.7 inches here in the same period

Tonights forecast has 500 mm/20 inches over the next 3 days....south of here fortunately.

The heaviest rain I've seen has probably been when I've been holidaying in Singapore/Malaysia not sure of exact rainfall figures though, but there have been a few days when I've been there where rainfall would have well exceeded Perth's maximum 24 hour rainfall record of 120mm / 5".

Heaviest 24-hour rainfall that I can remember in Perth was in July 2001, had about 88mm / 3.5" with a slow moving cold front interacting with tropical moisture.

Most intense short term rainfall/hail I've seen would easily be the March 2010 supercells that went through Perth we had about 40mm of rain in less than an hour and large hail (up to 6cm width), it was extra startling as only 0.2mm of rain had fallen in the previous 4 months. Caused a lot of superficial damage to windscreens, powerlines and cars and a lot of birds didn't fare too well either

You never know with thunderstorms. Most in a day was 192 mm (7.6") on May 31st, 1992 in Paris-Batignolles (central Paris) but I don't remember it as I was a toddler. Anyway same day, Paris-Montsouris, the official weather station, situated a few km to the south recorded "only" 68 mm (2.7") so it was pretty localised. I was living about equidistant from the two.

More recently (I still don't recall anything), this time at the official Paris-Montsouris weather station, 104 mm (4.1") fell on July 6th, 2001.

Highest rainfall rate was apprently 40 mm (1.6") in 10 minutes in Villepinte in the northern suburbs. For Paris itself I have no clue, but that May thunderstorm must have been pretty violent.

Unfortunately I missed the 171mm my area had one day in 1975 and I'm very unlikely to see it happen again here in my lifetime. I was in Guatemala during their rainy season, but though the downpours were impressive I'm not sure any of them that I saw lasted long enough to get any massive totals. I have no idea about specific totals - the most I've ever seen might be a mere 50-60mm. Even so, anything above about 30mm almost anywhere in England outside upland/moorland areas generally causes some degree of flooding so it's a significant amount for us.

I had a 24 hour rainfall total above 1 inch this month, the first time I've exceeded 1 inch of rainfall in 24 hours since July 2009.

I dont know, but in this crazy city it can rain A LOT in one day, so im guessing i ve seen a lot without knowing the numbers.

This year, in april, we had kinda of a tornado with a huge rain storm, and it was insane, i was in the street when storm and rain exploded and it was crazy, i lost my flip flops that started floating in the streets and was completely soaking wet and walking with the water up to my knees. Insane.

Storms are very common here, so i lived a lot of them since i live here. Floods are common too.

A quick search told me that once in 24 hours it rained 308,5 mm here in BA. Is that a lot? crazy lot? it was in 1985.

I know this ferbuary it rained more than the 6 months previous to it, and i know its normal to have insane amount of rain in where cars start floatig in the street and streets flood and etcetera. UGH.

Just had a 200 mm/8 inch over 24 hours (possible) heavy rain warning, up to 300 mm/12 inches over 36 hours. Starting tomorrow lunchtime -ish.

Could be higher amounts in the hills, or so they say.

Bit of funda as well. Ya know wot I mean?

It was back in March, 1998, with 188 milimeters(7.4 inches). Most recently, in May 23th, 2005 we had an amount of 144,7 milimeters...
