Default The most rain you have seen in 24 hours

So what is the highest amount of rain you have ever seen in 24 hours?

I have seen between 10 to 11 inches at least 3 times in the past 3 years. Once during a thunderstorm that trained over the area that I worked. Once from the rememants of a tropic storm, can't remember which one though. And the most recent, Hurricane Irene from last summer.

I think when Irene dumped about eight inches within 24 hours. Amount is disputable though because the storm knocked out the weather station.

The most rain I've seen in one day is 3 inches, on 10 June 2007, I was genuinely surprised the city of Hull did not declare a state of emergency or something like that after the rain that fell there, it was all over the news, the city was virtually under water.

100 litres. It takes only a few seconds to see all that rain water in my water butt not 24 hours.

The highest 24 hour rainfall totals I have seen were in February 2008 and December 2003. In February 2008 the daily rainfall total was 110.2mm (4.4"), but this all fell in less than 12 hours. In December 2003 the highest daily total was 99.6mm (4"), but it is likely that there was a 24 hour period where more than that fell, I would guess about 125mm (5"). The highest daily rainfall total on record for Dalby is 152.1mm, which is pretty pathetic in my opinion as most nearby stations have had a higher total than that. Of course, this is not necessarily the highest 24 hour rainfall total.

Not much actually. It has rained here 4 1/2 inches before but it doesn't count because I was up north. I would have to say about 3 inches.

For me, the wettest day I've seen had roughly 5 inches, perhaps closer to 3 or 4. Those tropical rain totals you coastal denizens get are just monstrous.

11 inches of rain in 24 hours is unthinkable to me.. wow. Then again, I make a big deal when the 24 hour total exceeds 10mm, let alone 1 inch.

On 27 December 1989 I was driving on a road through the West Coast rain forests. A vigorous NW rain event probably produced "only" about 250mm/10" of rain at those low altitudes, but upland a little a station recorded 638mm that day, and almost 1000mm in 3 days. At the start of the month (which did have 14 dry days) there was 540mm in 4 days, and mid-month about 1100mm in 5 days. The monthly total was 2722mm, not quite a record monthly high for the site.

When I lived in TN one May (2010) we got about 11 inches in 24 hours. During that same period, I believe Nashville got 18 inches, and it looked like this:
