Default Sunniest major cities in the world

This is a shameless mirror copy of Proterra's thread about gloomiest cities and shall be, as the title indicates, a thread about the top 20 sunniest major cities in the world.

To make it interesting and comparable I will use Proterra's very same criteria:

X) Xxxxx, YYYY hours = Major city, metropolitan area > 500.000 inhabitants
*) Xxxxx, Yyyy hours = Regional centre, > 100.000 inhabitants or regional centre, >5000 inhabitants, largest or capital city of remote region, or no larger towns within 300 kilometres. Unranked as these are not major cities.

For now the first few that come to mind:

1) Phoenix 3876
2) Las Vegas 3822
3) Cairo 3416
4) Los Angeles 3254
5) Cape Town 3092
6) Lhasa 2990

Let's add all those we know to make a comprehensive ranking. For now I have to go but I will update it later

I did not include Yuma, AZ and Redding, CA as Wiki says both of their city population is below 100 000, though Yuma MSA has more than 100 000 inhabitants - what do you guys think?

From my own research, I found Phoenix and Las Vegas to be tied for the sunniest. Yuma, not a major city, tops them all!

Aren't we also talking days with clear blue skies, with no clouds in the sky?

Khartoum 3731, Nicosia 3314, Johannesburg 3128 plus virtually anywhere in the Middle East I'd imagine. The sunniest cities seem to be spread around the world more than the Chinese/northwest European domination of the gloomiest cities list.

Baghdad, 3240 hours
Benghazi, 3169 hours
Downtown Los Angeles, 3254 hours
San Francisco, 3061 hours
Damascus, 3168 hours

Also, although I don't think this would make the list of the sunniest, Ulan Bator gets 2793 hours. I doubt that one would be on ADGreen's holiday list .

There also seem to be so many cities that are extremely sunny by my standards. It's much harder to find the really cloudy spots. Instead of needing Barack Obama to spread the wealth, I think we need Mother Nature to spread the cloudiness .

Unfortunately Australia doensn't have any major cities in the sunniest spots (unless you call that tiny village, which takes 30 years to fly to - PERFFFFFFFFFFFF, a city) The sunniest population center I can find which actually has sunshine observations is Karratha with 3723 hours annually.
