The Met Office have finally uploaded the 1981-2010 averages to their site. Heathrow isn't a station for some reason, but Greenwich is still there even though it ceased to exist in 2004 (maybe they have spliced data from London City Airport?)

So the official sun hours figure for London is 1480 hours for 1981-2010? Even the temps are unimpressive for summer with 74F and 73F for July and August. The rest of London is warmer.
What happened to all the warm summers of the 90's and 2000's as they don't seem to affect the averages at Greenwich.
Why do they even bother recording temps at Heathrow then? In the USA almost every city official weather station is at the airport. To me it makes no sense to use Greenwich if everyone knows it is off from pretty much everywhere else in London.
Greenwich stopped recording data in 2004, so I don't know why they haven't started using Heathrow. Heathrow's sun hours for 1981-2010 are 1626.
East London is cooler than west London, there's more coastal influence (lower temps and more cloud) so the temperatures aren't as high.
Forget London. I think my new fav climate in the UK is Cornwall and a place like Yeovilton. 72F right on that beautiful coast. I still like summers a lot warmer, but I could get used to Cornwall easily. Too bad it is too hard to immigrate to the UK. Why isn't that a huge summer resort area in the UK?

You made me curious and i googled it. Cornwall looks beautiful! And it says is the sunniest part of england? It should be the most popular summer resort if it isnt!

Cornwall is one of the poorest counties in England (possibly the poorest) but with some of the most expensive property - wealthy city slickers from London and elsewhere buy up all the property for themselves (pushing prices up and up), which is probably why it isn't a popular resort area (and in a way I'm glad, it's nice most of the coast is unspoilt). It's rather sad because it means local residents there can forget about buying a house unless they work elsewhere.

From a climatological perspective all the stations that I saw seemed to have a coldest month (January) high in the upper 40’s F (6 – 9 C). I’m interested to know is there any station in the UK or Ireland that reports a cold month high of 50 F/10 C or higher?
Sicily gets near it at 9c. Within the next 40 years it may reach 10c.
I would have hoped Sicily was somewhere nearer 15°C than 10°C.
