Looks like a warm forecast there as well.

After tonight, we should not see any below normal lows for at least 10 days from southern CA east to Florida it looks like based on what NOAA is saying.

No kidding... Also here in coastal BC Cape St. James lowest recorded temperature is 37F and it's at 52N.. warmer than most areas in Northern Florida! Not quite as impressive as Scilly but still mild nonetheless

That’s right.

One of the things that folks in the middle latitudes forget is that the concept of the preverbal winter mildness of the subtropics is much more a function of warm and sunny winter days…rather than balmy winter nights. Whether southern California, north Florida, the Gulf Coast, the desert southwest…etc while average winter lows are often in the mid 40’s F…it’s not totally uncommon to see several nights with lows in the lower 30’s in any of these areas.

While it’s very interesting to see that both BC/parts of Schilly have had similar lows to both San Diego and parts of north Florida – those locations are both highly oceanic climates – so one would expect mild winter lows much of the time. It’s even more amazing to me that a location like mine (along the Connecticut coast/Long Island Sound), which is at least a modified continental type climate…has had lows that are not much different so far as well; Last night parts of north Florida fell into the lower 30’s …and my low last night was 30.4 F. San Diego fell to 41 F before my closest NWS station (Bridgeport, CT) even had a frost. Of course the numbers will change as we get into the deepest of winter.

Of course, there is the other side of the coin as well: Places like San Diego or North Florida will have a low in the 30’s and rise to the 70’s (or even 80’s f) the same winter day...while that would never happen in BC, Schilly, or coastal Connecticut in the winter.

I just updated all the LOWS:

Key West is the only station still in the 60 F club….while south FL and south TX dominate the 50 F club. Daytona Beach is out they fell to 39.6 F Sunday night.

1) Key West, FL = 61 F (11/25)

2)
Miami, FL = 55 F (11/25)
St Petersburg, FL = 55 F (11/25)
Ft. Lauderdale, FL = 55 F (11/25)
Port Isabel, TX = 55 F (10/27)

3) McAllen, TX = 53 F (10/27)

4. Naples/Ft. Myers, FL = 50 F (11/25)

5. Palm Beach, FL = 49 F (11/24)

6. Galveston, TX = 48 F (11/13)

7. Corpus Christi, TX = 48 F (11/13)

8. Yuma, AZ = 48 F (11/13)

9. Los Angeles, CA = 47 F (11/11)

10. Orlando, FL = 46 F (11/23)

11. Melbourne, FL = 44 (11/25)

12. New Orleans, LA = 44 F (11/9)

13. Palm Springs, CA = 44 F (11/11)

14. Phoenix, AZ = 43 F (11/11)

15. San Francisco, CA = 43 F (11/11-12)

16. San Diego, CA = 41 F (11/11-12)

17. San Antonio, TX = 41 F

I checked the forecasts for the deserts, the Gulf, and Florida...and there appears to be no below no cold for the next 10 days. So the numbers should hold at least till the end of the first week of December and maybe into the 2nd week as well with the pattern change expected this Thur/Fri.

I think it is kind of neat, the power of water to modify a climate. Same here, but not as dramatic. Cape May, NJ (on the coast) had its first frost this morning, while Charleston, SC (at the airport 15 miles northwest of the city) lowest temp so far was 32f on the 23rd of November. The diff being Cape May has not been above 57f for the last 7 days, while Charleston hasn't had a max temp lower than 62f in the last 7 days.

Very good point. For me, I determine it by the mean temperature. In Corpus Christi, TX., based on the 1981-2010 period, the average high in the coldest month (January) is 67 with a low of 47, giving us a mean temperature of 57. Meanwhile, you could look to the Pacific NW, like Gold Beach, OR. for example, which has a low of 42 on their coldest month, with a average high of 55, giving a mean temp of 49 (rounded).

On those same winter months, Corpus Christi has been known to have temps go into the 90's (Corpus has seen the 90s quite a few times every month of the winter with regards to record highs), where as Gold Beach has seen 81 once during a hot day in February, otherwise they have only managed to hit the 70s a handful of times, which is still rather impressive given how far north they are.

Anyhow, its good to see Wavehunter has udated the 40 degree chart. Lots of updates today!

Quite true.

I was little shocked (but I guess I shouldn't have been) that New Orleans or Houston (don't remember which one) has record high of at least 90 F every month on the year .
