I don't know really. I'd prefer to be warming up from being too cold but I would prefer to be in a situation where I was "too hot" so I guess I don't know.

This is a good question. If cooling off meant jumping into a lake then I'd pick that. If warming up meant bundling up by a fire that is good too!

Cooling off is way better. Where I've been working the last 2 weeks, is sheltered from any breeze and very dusty. I find myself thinking about a swim a lot , so I'm spending about an hour in the river after work each day.

I like to sit in front of the fire on cold evenings though.

I use to have that experience a LOT that summer (when i didnt have a/c). I use to enter supermarket and go to the diary section (colder) and stay there for a long time supposedly looking at the products but actually just cooling myself

Both are nice but I find heat much more uncomfortable than cold. Being cold is easily ignored for a long while but as soon as I start sweating, finding a place to cool off becomes an immediate priority. Sadly that's not always so easy as air conditioning is nearly inexistent here. Thankfully heat is rare as well.

Indoor temperatures are typically not high enough for me to feel genuinely-warm in winter.

Literally "staying warm inside" would mean an inside temperature of at least 78 F/ 26 C.

While living in Canada,
I only felt warm in winter lifting weights at the gym,
hanging out in my gym's sauna
blasting car heat on max for 30+ minutes

I really love the heat and hate the cold so this question is an easy one for me. Stay warm in the winter.

As heat is so rare, I mostly enjoy it, but it's also very difficult to escape from it. In shopping centers the AC situation is nowadays quite good, but entering a bus with 40C inside temps or my apartment with 28C is not very desirable. Swimming is perhaps the best possibility, but that would require a 30 minute trip in that 40C bus to the beach.

So I'll go with warming up in winter. A snowy, freezing landscape outside, sauna, good food, a couple of beers and relaxing at a fireplace. I doesn't get any better than that!
