There's a good chance it will get down to 0C Sunday or Monday morning, and then rain is expected on Wednesday. Nice to see some variety in the weather for a change.
Variety indeed! Today is a complete change around - a blue dome day with a max around 24C. Perfect except it is a shame I am inside working.

Weekend looks good, but a mid week breakdown followed by a recovery:

Sunny and a little cool now after some low cloud and drizzle this morning, currently 19C at 1pm and very pleasant out in the sun.

Night time lows are now regularly below or around the 10C mark.

After suffering through a week of very ghastly, and icy cold, windy sunny westerly conditions, this forecast http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/forecasts/sydney.shtml over the next few days sounds quite lovely - should be repeated every couple of days - and I, as well as many others, very fervently hope this eventuates
Just 0.2mm in the city gauge MTD and around 4mm here.
Again surprised that none of the eastern suburbs sites registered any rainfall as I got home late this evening to wet roads and puddles and judging by the gutters - one could see that more than one mm fell - as leaves were spaced quite "apart" from the latter.
Plenty of complaints heard lately with people commenting that we need rain and that the evil moisture-sucking incessant westerly wind blowing dust and grit into our faces has been very unpleasant too as well as being very cold.
One of my workmates lives near Penrith and she has been forced to "wear" a blanket around her during the hour-long commute into the city.
I have been going to work wearing in full winter attire and some others have gone to wearing balaclavas simply to ward off that nasty icy cold westerly wind.
Always nice arriving at work into 25C heat.
Funny how people complain quite loudly and thermostats cranked up high once that icy cold westerly blows yet if from the S-SE quarter - complaints lessens and thermostats are not cranked up so high.
Talking with a woman - here for a conference - hails from Nottingham (Yorkshire in England), moved here a few months ago from Wellington, NZ, after 10 years there and she said it was surprising how cold the westerly is, to which I replied - ah you haven't experienced the "summer" westerly - and she also mentioned that whenever she "dared" to make a comment about the wind over there, locals got quite aggressive about it - even to the point of physical violence - and to put it bluntly she would never go back there as she, and her husband too, got sick of the constant cold gales.
Can't wait for milder S-SE winds and the rain too

Abysmal month so far for rain in Sydney, not much on the forecast for the next couple of weeks for you guys either unfortunately.

Yep it was quite cloudy and then followed by a very sunny July which was also the driest on record. IIRC 1945 was the cloudiest month on record here with 80 odd sunshine hours and 476mm of rain
The 40's saw the west recording some quite wet months and the opposite for parts of the east coast - apart from March 1942 which saw Sydney (Ob. Hill) recording its highest March total of 521mm - and the highest (March) 24 hour daily total of 280mm as well.

I've noticed that during my 12 years here rainfall is ranging dramatically from extremely dry to extremely high with some months in between being "average" with some "normally" dry months recording high rainfalls.
As per my previous comments about this month being dry - well since the last week of April which is pretty unusual - huge contrasts can occur.
For example May 2007 recorded just 9mm then June, with five ECLs, which saw the "pasha" ship running aground at Nobbys head in Newcastle (Australia, not the one in "upon Tyne") had 510mm. 2008 saw May receiving 3mm and June 127mm. Last year, for the former, saw 37mm falling then 244mm falling over the latter - this was when I were away in Europe for 6 weeks.

Sunshine ending 20th:

Sydney: 158
Melbourne: 105
Brisbane: 147
Adelaide Airport: 125
Perth: 130
Hobart: 110
Darwin: 186

Rainfall:

Sydney: 0.2mm
Melbourne: 26
Brisbane: 13
Adelaide Airport: 46
Perth: 111
Hobart: 21
Darwin: 10

Very unfortunate that Sydney is topping the list for dryness and sunshine (outside the tropics)
Hopefully the "expected" ECL will put a stop to the ridicolous dry, as well as icy cold westerly, and sunny conditions we've been suffering through lately

Also Broome, in NW WA, has experienced an unusual bout of cloudy and wet weather with just 163 hours of sun and 116mm of rain - lucky buggers!

Stick to your own country's stats - you don't know how to interpret the NZ ones anyway. Partial monthly totals in the NZ context are of little value anyway, especially for rainfall.

I will give a link to the full NZ April NIWA report when the stats. are included.

A good sunny effort considering any lingering after effects of La Nina, or at least only neutral conditions to help.
