I would like to move to a four seasons climate in a liberal city within the next two years...i (hot, record)

Maybe it's because there is a more stark divide in the US, whereas here, most cities would probably fall in the liberal category, maybe all of them would.
Portland sounds good to me. Summer might not be as exciting for weather though and winters a bit grey. The skiing would rock though. No where in the East could compare for skiing.
Boston would be a very good choice too.
You definitely get 4 seasons there, lots to do, diversified economy, also MIT & Harvard.
You're less than a 2 hr drive to very good skiing in New Hampshire and Vermont,
imo easily as good as skiing in Portland.
Chicago, IL- A big city with lots to do and a very solid four seasons. Might the winters be a little TOO cold when comparing to NYC or Boston? Also might be too conservative politically as well?
I wouldn't worry about it being too conservative politically. You might not like the cold, though. I believe NYC gets more snow than Chicago, but when Chicago is snowless it's still typically cold.
I'd say Boston would be best but wouldn't the winters be bit of a shock?
