Except that the USA does have a Mediterranean climate as well. The coast of central and southern California is Mediterranean, albeit not as humid/wet as the Mediterannean basin, temperatures are the same pretty much.
That's what this whole thread is about! Which area has the better weather/terrain!
As for US, I don't get what's boring. We get the monsoonal thunderstorms in summer (most of the country), hurricanes, tropical storms, tornados, earthquakes, tsunamis, wildfires, haboobs and snowstorms! We do get weather! Half of this stuff I just wrote is rare in Europe! London has a boring mild, overcast climate. Northern Finland is frigid and snowy for most of, if not all of, the year. The Mediterranean is just as "boring" as SoCal. If anything, Europe's climate and terrain is not as interesting as the USA's!
No it seems that everyone discuss which of the two has more climate variety not the best climate. USA has more variety but Southern Europe has the best climate (mediterranean climate). In all other threads California always won the climate polls. It's not for nothing that millions of people live in Southern California, because of the mediterranean climate.
In general European beaches have much more beautiful scenery with their rock formations, bays etc. that you don't see in the USA. But the USA has other things to offer. It has unique Landscapes that you don't see anywhere in the World. Where else do you see those stunning canyons, especially the Grand canyon. Temperate Rainforests, Yosemit Nationalpark, highest trees in the world.
It's also nice that most of the nature is untouched. Wildlife (yellowstone) is also better, many animals got wiped out in Europe by humans.
USA, since it has tropical and subtropical climes. The USA has the biggest variety of climates in the world. In fact, it has all climates. You can have:
Steppe (Salt Lake City)
Semi-Arid (Inland Empire, CA)
Subtropical (Tampa Bay)
Tropical (Honolulu)
Humid Subtropical (Washington DC)
Arid (Phoenix)
Subarctic (Fairbanks)
Arctic (Barrow)
Oceanic (Seattle)
Humid Continental (Chicago)
Mediterranean (San Diego)
There are examples of all of those in the EU and European Continent as well (to keep it fair since you included Alaska and Hawaii for the US).
Lol at Milan for Humid Subtropical. You who go on and on about NYC, Philly and DC not being subtropical. Have you looked at the temp stats for Milan? Milan: 40.3/28.6F for jan average temps. Not subtropical imo. Washington DC jan average = 43.6/28.7
I hardly think New Caledonia counts as part of France. You should have just used French Guyana.
DC is warmer than Milan, and DC ain't subtropical. How are those straws you are grasping at?

Milan is 'humid subtropical' (Cfa) according to Koppen, same as NYC and DC (though the wording is totally wrong as none of them are remotely subtropical in my eyes). Most of the French overseas territories are in tropical climates.

Same for US overseas territorites:
Northern Marianas
Guam
Puerto Rico
USVI
American Samoa
