right, as far as damage goes your area near Miami is pretty safe, i was referring mostly to West Palm Beach regarding damage during the 1980's. You'll definitely see some coconut palms outside the areas I described but they are young and they are young for a reason. its a misnomer to see a healthy coconut palm in Florida and assume they grow great because Florida/Texas are actually one of the few places in the subtropics (or the only places) where a coconut palm could look very happy (because there are many warm winter days) then one bad cold snap bam its dead. instead for other areas of the subtropics coconut palms are limited by how warm it can get on average during the winter months, which isn't the problem for most of Florida, its the minimum temperatures that kill them.

Where specifically? I'd have to see for myself to believe that because I was born and raised in central FL and have never once in my life seen a coconut palm in Orlando with the exception of the key west section of Seaworld, but they said the pools are kept at 80F year round and they put heaters out if it is going to get below 40F, also they're replanted with large landscape ready palms every time one dies. I'm sure there are a few here and there in east Orlando people grow in their yards for fun but I imagine they look burnt pretty badly and don't produce many coconuts. for the most part you won't see them. In CFL you really only see coconut palms near the coast, up to Cape Canaveral on the EC and Clearwater on the WC. There's a few of them in south Tampa as well and along the eastern shore of Tampa Bay

Like I said, I'm sure there are a few here and there, but for the most part they are few and far between. And you won't ever see them planted in shopping plazas, only private parties for the most part
