People talk like 0℃ in oceanic climate feels colder than -10℃ or -15℃ in continental climate. That sounds stupid to me.

I don't know if people have said things like that. I took note this morning on my walk to work holding an umbrella in 44F that my fingers were getting numb after about 20 minutes into the walk. I don't recall that happening on dry sunny mornings with temps around mid to upper 30'sF.

I think people have said that cold and damp feels colder than cold and dry at the same temps. I know for myself that is def true. We have both oceanic type weather in winter (easterly and northeasterly winds) and dry cold (westerly and northwesterly winds). Given the same temp the easterly winds are def colder like today.

That is why I think a place like Deming, NM with the same Jan monthly mean as London would feel warmer. Of course just my opinion but the much higher sunshine hours, higher sun in the sky and lower dampness and cloudiness would feel far warmer to me than London in winter.

I live in oceanic climate and people whine about how too cold the weather is when it is 3℃ or 4℃ outside but it is not cold to me. I don't even zip my coat at 3 or 4℃ temperature. I leave my coat unzipped. I start feeling cold at 0℃ or 1℃ but I warm up after sometime of walking, start feeling less cold.

Depends on how humid it is, wind, and sunshine. 3 or 4C here with no wind and afternoon sunshine is rather pleasant imo.

From personal experiecne, when I was in Valparaiso sub-15C weather was very uncomfortable due to the high humidity and the Pacific wind, and the fact that usually it meant clouds. In New York City on the other hand 15C will be very comfortable usually

Deming is warmer than London in January though, by 0.2c. Going to work in the morning, it would feel much warmer in London, but throughout the afternoon it would feel much warmer in Deming.

Maybe not on a damp or rainy morning in London compared to a dry sunny morning in Deming.

That was my point concerning 44F this morning and how it felt downright cold in the wetness and dampness compared to dry sunny mornings in winter that were colder temp wise but didn't feel as cold.

5-10C with rain or wind feels much colder than a calm, sunny -5C day to me.

Never had that experience on Long Island for as long as I lived there, so I think that it's probably just a personal thing despite the widespread belief. So I'm gonna agree with atsizat.
