This 9.7c high was the coldest high since 2007. The coldest highs in a typical winter tend to fall between 10-11C. Even if the temps during the day are below 10C, it often exceeds that at some point during the 24 hour recording period as the airmass changes, thus the high will be recorded as such. In such scenarios often the high can occur late at night as the coldest airmass loses its grip. Last year saw 3 days with highs between 10-11C, but none under 10C. It seems the 10C barrier is as tricky to break as the 45C barrier. Everything just needs to align perfectly.

It should be 20c this night. Tomorrow high will still 34 before return to 28-30c, so technically it wont be a heat wave.
