It's not a true subtropical climate, but mediterranean temperate with some continental influence.

Vienna because it isn't too dry in summer and snow is more common in winter as well. Vienna seems to have four distinct seasons and less sunshine hours than "for me too sunny" Madrid. Plus Madrid is way too hot in summer. 31C?!... No thanks!
