You forget that high pressure ridges can build over the central US, and can the Bermuda High off the Atlantic. The jet stream need not trough during the summer.

CFSv2 as of now, doesn't show cold pools over the US

I see the high pressure is there all thru the summer in the PNW, while over us not so much. I'm calling it now. We are going to have the coolest summer out of the last three. And next winter will be the worst. The 1980's are back. Of course, only here. Europe and Asia next year will be above average yet again.

I hope you are wrong about the summer. As for the 1980's we did have some brutal winter, but summer of 83' here was a scorcher, 84' wasn't too bad, and 1988 was the hottest summer on record

1988 was one of the worst summers of the 20th century here, and was the last of a run of awful summers from 1985-1988. December 1981 was the coldest december until 2010, and Feburary 1986 was the coldest on record at Heathrow (1.7c/-2.7c).

Jun: 20.8c
Jul: 27.6c

Jul: 24.2c

Very nice variety of warm to hot weather for half the year and cool to cold weather for the other half. Good rainfall and plenty of sunshine. An interesting climate that I would rate even higher if it had another month of warm weather.

A-/B+

The summers of 1981, 1982, 1985, and to a lesser extent 1989 were pretty awful by our standards here.... Looks like 86' was no winner either. I also see 1990 was a horrible summer too, though not in the 80's

Here are the 1980's in a nut shell at MDW. It seems as if negative and positive anomalies were equally distributed in all seasons.

Though there were extremes like December 1983 coldest on record. January 1985 was pretty brutal as it recorded the coldest absolute minimum in Chicago history,

Like I said above Jun-Aug 1988 was the warmest summer on record (in terms of 3 month average max temps), hosting the most 90F degree days (48), and most 100 degree days (8) at Midway airport. It was a drought summer, so the mean temperature was not the warmest, as nightly minimum temps dropped because there were lower dew points

1995 was the hottest summer in terms of Mean temps having a 3 month average of 78.2F/25.7C

1990 was actually a warmer than average summer, and recorded the UK's highest temperature ever.. until it was broken 13 years later in 2003, in the same month (August).
