Apparently there was a Tsunami at the NJ coast. It wasnt caused by an Earthquake but 30 diferent gauges out in the water picked up on the tsunami like wave which peaked at 6 feet high. It swept 2 people out.

Tsunami hits the Jersey Shore (Continental Shift Slip may be to blame) June 24, 2013

West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Information

Did the Derecho cause it??

" The event occurred in close conjunction with a weather system labeled by the National Weather Service as a low-end derecho which propagated from west to east over the New Jersey shore just before the tsunami."

I personaly dont think so. Maybe the continental shelf slipped a bit.

There was a 6.4 earthquake in the Northern Mid Atlantic Ridge in the Atlantic Ocean but that was 1 week later on May 24th

Here's the earthquake map that shows where the 6.4 earthquake happened ... related? Ironic? Coincidental? Who knows.

Surely thats too far south to be hitting NE USA? If it hit north east USA, wouldn't there be a Tsunami in Ireland too?

Idk, the Jersey Shore ranges from 38N to 40N, Ireland is much farther north.

Another blog on it. Apparently I found out there was a 2.9 earthquake near NJ but I still dont think that was the cause. Then again, maybe all this is related.
