That's very true, and if I remember correctly some places in NE Mississippi and N Alabama got even up to 12-14" of snow?

Highs Monday have hit 44F/7C O'Hare and 46F/8C at Midway. A 48F/9C highs occurred at Gary and Highland--both in Indiana--and 48F/9C at Downers Grove. My suburb hit 47F/8C

But back to winter....

I hope this verifies!

Chooo Chooo. Can you see the parade of storms in the Pacific??? Very interesting.... round the peak of the ridge in the west...., drop into the U.S and you get.... hmmmm. Some interesting times ahead? We'll see.

Something starting to tell me we'll need those winter weather flights going out into these systems to give the models better data to work with to give us better solutions down the line.

^^

Yup, Pineapple Express all aboard. Gonna bring several rounds of "Alberta Clippers" and "Saskatchewan Screamers" into the Midwest. Hopefully to help rebuild the snow pack. Last week we had 13" on the ground at Midway, today only 1"

Looks like the west coast is having a heatwave:

NOAA National Weather Service

NOAA National Weather Service

That San Francisco forecast is warm even for mid summer.

I want 27 F and overcast back in place for January. The typical jersey winter day.

I hope this freak winter never happens again. What is causing this permanent super high pressure in the northeastern Pacific? Why won't it budge or break down? This has gone on since November.

Enjoy it people in Europe and the US West Coast. I will be jumping for joy once the giant high pressure is dead and gone for good.

Just to show how freakish this winter is, how often would you see a forecast like this in January for Seattle with actual sunshine day after day?

Or like this in SF? This forecast is better than their cool summers and fog.

And finally LA looks like it is in the middle of summer, but no marine layer to speak of.

California shouldn't enjoy this. Every single day is making the record-breaking drought worse and increasing the state being in flames come summer. It's running out of time for rain. The one indication that the San Francisco forecast is a winter one is the nights are a bit too cool. Not by much, but San Francisco wouldn't get 47F nights in the summer, ocean is too warm.

I've seen forecast for sun for a day or two in the middle winter for Seattle, but a whole week straight? these california forecasts are weird, especially the 3000 foot one.

as to the pineapple express, usually those hit california, not canada.

No it isn't. Is the average high 27F in January? No. The avg high is around 40F. Temps usually fluctuate between 35F and 45F.
