On the other hand we've had warm summers ( actually just a very warm May and July) when there was a persistent Alaskan Ridge during winter. However the pattern flipped in spring

1977

Jan/February 1936 also looked very similar to this year

And we all know how the summer of 1936 turned out

What did SST's look like in late Feb in 1977 in NE Pacific? Hasn't this SST anomaly been there since last Spring?

Match play championship (golf) this weekend. I remember this time last year when it got postponed for several inches of snow, in the Arizona desert. Match Play Championship opener halted in Arizona for snow - ESPN

1963 summer (1981-2010)

Average max:83.5F (82.7F)
Average min: 63.7F (64.7F)
Mean: 73.6F (73.7F)

Number of 90 degree days was 21 (The long term normal at Midway airport is 23 or 24)

Winter so far for CONUS 1981-2010 base period

February so far for globe about normal for 1981-2010 base period

11-16 day period no sign of winter leaving for same areas already brutalized thus far

JB thinks BIG snow storm for the circled area in this time frame. Icing on the cake? Ok, after that it needs to just stop.

Cold air bottled up over Alberta & Saskatchewan is unbelievable. It's forecast to be 73F below normal and the actual temp near -60F!

The "snowpack" is gone, the only snow left is in piles and shadowed areas.

Someone finally updated the snow gauge up town. It's showing just over 11ft for the season. That sounds about right considering what is piled up around here. Snow event took us off guard last night as they kept extending the snow advisory through out the day yesterday and then about 10pm last night turned it into a winter storm warning. It snowed and blew all night long.

I grabbed the usual picture out front this morning.

Grabbed a picture across the street to the doctors office.

Then later today I grabbed a webcam picture of the Mackinaw Bridge. It was closed down last night when the snow and wind got so bad, but today it doesn't look much better. I would have to have some serious life threatening business to tend to in order to get me to go across that when conditions are like this.
