For the city of Chicago

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

This 8 da stretch had an average max of 103.4F/39.7C

Seven days starting on July 8th the average max was 103.6F/39.8C

Further away from Lake Michigan like in west suburban Aurora it was even hotter

But LaSalle County (60 miles from the city limits) takes the cake for the entire month it average over 100 degrees!

I know that the hottest Julys on record in Canada were as follows (all are in British Columbia):

1) Spences Bridge = 35.5°C (1906) {96 F}
2) Lillooet = 34.7°C (1958)
3) Oliver = 34.5°C (1960)
4) Lillooet = 34.4°C (2009)
5) Spences Bridge = 34.3°C (1985)
6) Osoyoos = 34.1°C (1994)
7) Osoyoos = 34.0°C (1998)

I don't know what the hottest 7 day stretch would be, but I just have time to check one date, and Spences Bridge averaged 40c (104F) for a 7 day stretch in 1998. Not bad for 50 degrees North.

This would probably be the hottest 7 day period for Melbourne which occured in Jan 2009.

27/1 ...... 36.4c
28/1 ...... 43.4c
29/1 ...... 44.3c
30/1 ...... 45.1c
31/1 ...... 30.5c
1/2 ........ 33.8c
2/2 ........ 28.5c

Average = 37.4c

Actually, upon further sleuthing I found that January 1908 has Melbourne's hottest week on record. But the above is still the hottest in modern times.

14/1 ...... 27.7c
15/1 ...... 39.9c
16/1 ...... 42.8c
17/1 ...... 44.2c
18/1 ...... 40.0c
19/1 ...... 41.1c
20/1 ...... 42.7c

average = 39.8c
