Wow....

The above normal warmth this fall has already got the cold weather fans pretty mad - lol.

I hope it does turn cooler than normal... or this page will be scary - lol.

I do agree...the 8 - 14 day cold or warm is still not etched in stone. However, most NWS stations east of the Mississippi are running well above normal for October. Even if October turned sharply cooler (I don't see that at all) most NWS stations east of the Mississippi would still end above normal. NYC and Washington DC are running like 5 to 6 F above normal as of today I think. That's going to be tough to erase.

I think most if not all of the positive anomalies will be erased here.

Even Atlanta will see chilly weather. The 8-10 day ECMWF forecast: highs around 60°F and lows near 40°F.

The 5-10 day period may be the coldest for the month. Lots of freeze potential

Alot of US will see snow in the air, if not on the ground, before month ends according to the CFSV2

Would be nice to get a frost before the end of the month! But I highly doubt all the way down to North Georgia will see snow lol

Was a warm 72°F here this afternoon. Now just 4 hrs later a cool 49F. One reason I love the early sunsets.

My guess is that the most positive anomalies for the month will hug the East Coast, and most of the areas in month-to-date positive territory will have those positive anomalies wiped out by the time the month is over. Keep in mind we're only halfway through the month, so it wouldn't take that large or long of a cold spell to erase the month-to-date warmth. Certainly it will need to be quite cold, but nothing unprecedented or even unexpected will be required (well, Wavehunter doesn't expect it ).

What a precip shield. Wow . And 63 inches is a huge amount of snow to get in one month, let alone in October. It has to snow a lot to reach record totals in the Black Hills.

Pretty impressive after the 22nd. Those of you in the East, get outside this week and Enjoy it.. Getting more confident about the changes next week.

70s out there today and tomorrow and Thursday! Enjoy.
Now that's cold, when you have that big of an area of subfreezing 850's this time of year.

It's another warm May morning here. At 8am I'm at 52° in Mid October.

Warmest October on record so far with the mean of 63°F. And also driest with 0.26"! (since 1948)
