Never heard of Park Rapids so I looked it up. Record low of -51 in February, it hit -50 and -51 Feb 1 and 2, 1996. (Also -51 Feb 9 1899)

Charlotte in 2007 was in a major drought and we went the whole month of August at 100 degrees or more every day. probably topping off at about 105

early 90's I was living in Albany, NY and they set a record low one day with -47 degrees not including the wind chill.

Coldest in Chicago -27F/-32.8C on January 20th 1985 with a windchill of -65F/-53.9C (using new windchill formula)

Hottest in Chicago 106F/41.1C on July 13th 1995 also the warmest heat index I've ever experienced at 125F/52.2C


Hottest outside Chicago was in Surprise Arizona 45 miles outside Phoenix July 17th 2005 when it was 118F/47.8C

I grew up in the midwest, Kansas and Nebraska, but don't remember the cold. I"ve lived in CA most of my adult years. Last week my outdoor thermometer read 118f. That's as hot as I ever want to experience, takes my breath away.
