Earlier that week (of May 10th) it was hot. This was actually closer to Chicago though: it was almost 90F for several days. It cooled down on the 13th, and it was in the 40s and 50s from May 13th through 16, 2011.

I was just trying to say, it's not always mandatory for a high to happen in the afternoon.
Ah, so you were lying?

Yeah, but it wasn't 90 in the morning and 50 in the afternoon on the same day.....looks like it was 91 F on May 11th and 54 F on May 14th (for daytime highs).

I get what you're saying, I've seen it many times myself. I wasn't disputing that it couldn't be cold in the middle of the afternoon, just unusual for it to be 1 PM and 20 F colder than the "predicted" high. Usually when it's 1 PM and 20 F colder than the high, the high occurred sometimes in the morning and a cold front came through.

No I wasn't. If you look at any historical records for Illinois (if you can find any), or even any adjoining Midwestern states, you would see that in the middle of that month it was hot for several days, then cold for several days after a strict cold front. My temperatures may be a little off, but I do know it was hot for a little while, then cold.

Why does this even matter anyway? It's not like this is something extremely rare. It happens a lot in the spring and fall. The greatest 24 hour temperature difference occured in Loma, Montana, when it was like 50 below, and then later in the day, moved up well into the positive 40s F. That's more than an 80F difference in only a matter of HOURS. So even if I was lying, it's not impossible.
