i live in San Diego CA and don't have A/C.... i like heat, 75 to 85F degrees is not uncomfortable to me. i turn a fan on, drink gallons of ice tea and move more slowly if it gets, say, 95+ degrees.

If it's 75 F in Miami in August....that's a miracle. Even 85 (during the day) would be kinda cool. Try 90 F with 65% humidity...heat index of 100-105.
Slept with my fan on full blast and window wide open last night- low was 60 and house is 69 right now at 7:43AM (still 60 outside- high yesterday was 82). If a typical Miami day is 90/80, wouldn't the house be like 85 at midnight even with window open?
it depends on the way your house is built. my houses is built to get rid of heat as quickly as possible. after hurricanes inside the house would rise to 86-88f but that was it and at night would cool of to 82-84 so sure it was warm but not that bad.
Move. I've been in the Miami area when there was no A/C in August and it was downright unbearable. It's the swampy humidity that does it to me, not the heat. I live in Texas, where it is regularly 100+ degrees. That is HEAT. Humidity on the other hand is just unbearable. At least to me, anyway.
I've had to do without AC in summer while I lived in Ft Lauderdale exactly one time the 12 years I lived there, during Hurricane Francis ('04). While it wasn't a direct hit, it was close enough so that it knocked out power around noon, and stayed out till late the next day. That night, with winds holding at a sustained 60-65 mph, I had the windows on opposite sides of the house opened just a bit, but the wind was strong enough to push a decent breeze all through the house, so it wasn't really that bad...LOL. I got up during the night to watch the wind for a bit, and went back to bed for another snooze - a bit warm in the bedroom, but the indoor breeze made all the difference in the world.
If it'd been out the following night, however, with no wind and the normal hot and steamy temps, it'd been a sleepless night for sure - as I just can't sleep when it's hot and stuffy.
This past June, I was without power for one night and part of the next due to a derecho we had, but it was cooler than normal, with lows in the upper 60's, but it was still very borderline for me to get any sleep, especially with no breeze whatsoever. Slept maybe 5 hours that night without AC, which was more than I expected. I gotta have my AC in summer - if it didn't exist, I'd be moving to someplace really cold...lol.
I spent 3 and a half weeks without power in Miami after Hurricane Andrew hit on August 24,1992 ( which as of this writing is 2 days away). No AC and no electricity either and it was unbearable but I survived somehow! Of course I was young but there were more pressing issues as how to get food, ice or gas for your car & to top it off I was working double shifts at work.
People are resilient but the worst part was we had a gaping hole in our roof and two days later the typical summer south Florida thunderstorms started up again so I had basically a waterfall pouring into my living room everyday.
Not to get political but FEMA denied my claims for assistance and this was under Bush 1 administration. Don't rely on FEMA!
I live in So Florida now but have been vacationing here since the early 50's. We came every Summer to Miami Beach and stayed for a couple of weeks. There was no ac back then but we didn't seem to notice because you could leave the windows open back then (NO MORE ) and we ran fans. But we have gotten so used to ac that if it goes out for a day it is like the world is coming to an end.
