Weather History for Laredo, TX | Weather Underground

What causes those "heatsnaps" that Laredo gets? I don't think I've ever seen any city in the Lower 48 get up to the low 90s in the middle of winter (eh, maybe Phoenix is somewhere in CA's Inland Empire?), then go back down to the 60s in the same week, only to go back up to the 80s the week or two after? So we know where the cold snaps come from, where's that surge of heat coming from that doesn't seem to affect the Rio Grande Valley much? Brownsville usually only gets up to high 80s during such an event, not 90s

Because Laredo gets hot winds that come from the "Sierra Madre oriental" in Mexico that come down the slopes and heat up, similar to the Chinooks off the Rockies. Whenever a W/SW winds comes in Laredo, TX watch out. Those are the kinds of heat snaps that allow Laredo to get to 100 F in February.

Brownsville is moderated by the Gulf of Mexico.
Funny thing is that December in Laredo resembles June in Saskatoon

January in Laredo is warmer than June here. February in Laredo is warmer than any month here.
