In fact it's the same distance as I am from Lyon, which has a July and August much warmer than any month in Melbourne or Sydney.
I'm not sure of it myself, but maybe it has something to do with the age-old rivalry between Melbourne and Sydney? I agree as well. Sydney's summers are pretty crappy compared to mine. Their January high is like Portland, ME's July high.

Because every bit of heat bypasses Melbourne while Sydney gets it all over and over again. They've just had a recrod warm July, August, Sept while we are still getting cold miserable overcast days

No it doesn't. Lyon's July high is only 1.5C and August 0.5C warmer than the respective months in Melbourne and Lyon's average August low is the same as Melbourne's Feb low.

Wild spring weather here today. Strong wind, driving range and 3 hours of thunder this afternoon, with some quite decent ground strikes not too far away. I was half expecting small tornadoes where I was working today, with some menacing looking cloud about the place. Quite a few trees down and a few roofs blown off. My beloved banana patch is a mess, with some plants snapped in half, some snapped at ground level, and all of them looking very shredded.

Even stronger winds further south, with Canterbury recording 220 kmh/138 mph gusts. Not cold though. with temps in the mid to high 20'sC

My parents are going to Renmark to spend a few days on a houseboat next weekend. Here is their forecast.

30F/80F range tomorrow, then pushing 100F on the weekend!

It's not that rare at all. This location seems to have some very large diurnal ranges. The Australian record of 7 / 44C was set in Eyre a couple of years ago.

High around 15 C today but felt much warmer being mostly sunny. Driving out into the country I noticed how green everything looked and how swollen the rivers were after the recent heavy rains. Still a lot of snow on the mountains too.

The week ahead looks beautiful with 17 - 21 C highs and mostly sunny.

Starting to dry out now as we move towards summer, only 20mm recorded for the month so far. Not very warm though with no days above 28C recorded this spring yet.
