That sounds like an inconvenient tradition. Would that be the end of nautical twilight (10:05 PM for this station)or the end of astronomical twilight (10:55)?

so that's why you want earlier sunsets. I want later ones because I hate walking home when it's dark. Although when I eventually get a car that won't be a problem

Why is driving home in the dark less annoying than walking home in the dark?

Scholars have different thoughts, some scholar suggest -15, some -12.5, in Indonesia -18, and it's the safest (observations show that twilight can still remain at 15-16 degrees below horizon on very clear skies). However, for nights with sun that doesn't go below -18 on solar midnight (48.56+ degrees latitude encounter this problem atleast one summer night), use the nearest city's times with proper defined astronomical (-18) nightfall and dawn.

So which sun angle do you choose?

I was under the assumption most people would want to minimize nighttime, not actually want nighttime. Seems like Islam was founded where nighttime never gets that short, shortest time in Damascus between astronomical set and rise is 7 hours, nautical 7.5 hours. [Not using Mecca because it obviously be longer]
