No way. I'm very active in all weathers and I'm a warm lover. I actually like to be active in warm weather - get out there sweating those toxins out and all that.
I'm a cold lover and yes i am very active as well.
I am in the lucky position that my workplace is not too far away where i live, so i nearly always commute by bike (only exceptions are either if its raining very heavily or the streets and cycle paths are covered with a solid ice sheet).
During the warmer season i do also take longer cycle tours, whereas in the colder season, i'm still active enough by riding to work and back and also doing the daily shopping in this way.
I love it hot as I am the most active in those conditions!! I'm active in cold conditions to... But hot weather is better and ensures that I lose more weight! Give me over 30 degree ('c) heat and enough wind to surf, sail and windsurf every day!!!

Are there good breaks around Portsmouth?
I will do a surfing holiday in the UK at some time in the future.
The prospect of going out for a run on an overcast December day with the temperature at 9C is not one that I would enjoy. Give me a 25C sunny day to do that

Cornwall is probably your best bet, its renowned for surfing as the waves there are probably better, but SSTs are a bit lower and it is cooler and less sunnier than Portsmouth in general

Portsmouth is good to go Sailing in Spring and Summer and windsurfing (particularly in Autumn). But Pompey is sh*t for proper serf! Like Irlinit said, Cornwall is more well known for surfing, Devan and Dorset are pretty good places as well. I think Portsmouth is bad for surfing because its a nice (sarcasm) Stoney beach and it's protected by the Isle of Wight, that's just an educated guess though.
If you want to go surfing in the UK you may want a wet suite as the sea here is cold... I bet even if the UK had 40 degrees weather the sea temps will be still freezing!
Na think Australia or California are the best for the surf sport! Windsurfing is very good for the UK though, if you don't mind cold and wet then winter may be a good time to windsurf?
