Its going to dip down to 40 F after a daytime high of 64 F here in NJ. I am currently suffering from severe nasal congestion, and I am contemplating whether its still too warm to turn on the heat overnight. At what nighttime temperature do most of you turn on the heat when you are suffering from a cold.

I wouldn't run the heater. Just close the windows, you should be fine.

I wouldn't say it's too warm, I'd say 40 F is a cold night this time of year in NJ.

I usually turn the heater on in late October, when night lows here are around 10°C/50 F.
So definetely yes, at 40 F I would turn the heater on, even I'm not suffering a cold.

I'd definitely use the heater. I hate when it gets under 75 in the house.

It was only about 40 here last week, but the highs were about 80, so no need to turn on the heat. This week the lows are closer to 50, but the lows are getting dangerously close to 60. If this keeps up I'll be turning on the heat soon. One should use the mean instead of the low for when to turn on the heat.

You might want to try a humidifier to get some moisture into your irritated membranes.

Vaporizer and Humidifer are exactly what you need.

I have new insulation and windows so my house stays warm and stuff. So 40s outside is too warm UNLESS its 50s during the day (which today it wasn't) Doors and windows are open for now trying to cool down the house as much as possible.

Nice and chilly tonight for all.

I wouldn't say 40F is too warm for a heater, especially since it's September, it's way too early for lows near 40F.
