what ever affects Tassie, affects the icy tundra to its north aswell:

A chilly New Year for Tassy

Alex Krisman, Friday December 26, 2008 - 20:12 EDT

All those heading down to Tasmania for their new year's holidays can expect a gusty and chilly welcome with a series of unseasonable strong cold fronts pass through over the next week or so.

Hobart is expected to be below the 20 degree December average between the 29th of December until at least the 3rd of January. A windy New Year's eve and 16 degree New Year's day will provide a wintery welcome to 2009 to Hobart residents and tourists.

At this stage, it looks likely that this conditions will persist until about the 6th of January when warm relief is expected to arrive. However, this is likely to be short lived as a renewed series or fronts makes its approach.

Same here, 24 at 8 a.m., a heat wave! Should be close to 40 today, with some rain maybe, trouble with that, it could turn to sleet or ice just as fast!

I worry when we have these warm ups, what follows is not necessarily a good thing!

Finally, a warm up since we're leaving town tomorrow.

It's a beautiful 33 degrees with a windchill of 27~ABOVE zero. It's not my ideal climate, but it feels very nice outside after our cold spell.
