a Moderator cut: Word removed cold day here, temps state-wide up to 10ºC BELOW average. How lame.

Temps are in the low-70's everywhere. It's a disaster.

so far we had 2 overcast days in the mid 70's and I'm at my wits end. Im sick of this freezing gloom

Looks like summer has gone to hell, with 2 more crappy mid-70's days to survive before relief comes.

the usual cold s**t here.
I really, really hate Melbournes climate. It's not even so much our winters, but the fact that its so cold in summer. F**k's sake, we havent seen any hot days for over a week now. Next week has more of the same. Summer has truly gone to hell. Might aswell get the jackets out again like we have to for 10 months ofthe year.

Mid summer chill for southeastern Australia

Tom Saunders, Monday January 21, 2008 - 16:26 EDT

Residents of southeastern Australia can be excused for asking if its still summer due to unseasonably cool temperatures during the past few days.

Highs since Friday have struggled to reach 20 degrees over large parts of NSW and Victoria, up to 16 degrees below average.

The unusually low temperatures have been the result of extensive cloud cover which has sheltered the surface from the standard intense Australian summer sun.

While inland regions warmed up on Monday a blanket of low cloud kept temperatures over eastern NSW and southern Victoria up to 12 below average. Goulburn reached only 17 degrees by 3pm, their coldest January day in two years. Moss Vale was even colder reaching just 15, their coldest January day in at least six years.

The summer break won’t last according to weatherzone.com.au with temperatures set to return to near average levels by around midweek.

Fascinating to hear another person's view of the weather. I knew inland Victoria got hot but did not realize how warm Melbourne gets. So for 60s F according to the article to be record cold is quite odd. Of course quite different usually where I live...I am in the weather forecasting business and our summer temps up along ND/MN/Manitoba border where I live can vary from the 15C to 33C for highs.....now our winters are quite cold and long lasting from November to March. Lately temps have been -20C for a high and -35C for a low.

Now of course I prefer the cold versus the warmth...anthing above about 25C and I wither
