Similar in height to the Scandinavian Mountains with the highest Mountain around 8,000ft instead of a measly 4,000ft?

How would the climate change?

  • Dartmoor
  • Exmoor
  • Welsh hills
  • Pennines
  • Cambrian Mountains
  • Scottish Highlands
  • Southern Uplands (Scotland)
So all these ''hills'' or Mountains are all over 5,00ft, Ben nevis is 8,00ft instead of 4,000ft and Snowdom is 7,000ft instead of 3,000ft...

I think the UK would become a lot more like Vancouver Island and be a lot wetter and snowier at higher elevations due to orographic lift.

The east coast would be even drier, I suppose. Glasgow would get hardly any snow...but come to think of it, that's already the case.

It'd still be pretty cloudy over there, but drier. Just look at New Zealand, it's basically the same as the UK already, with the very high mountains factored in

I don't think NZ is as an good example as Vancouver Island, as the latitude is different. It's a lot wetter as well as drier, and with quite different rainfall distribution patterns. Vancouver Island would be a better comparison, particularly with temperatures and sunshine.

If UK mountains were higher, I think the rain shadow effect would be more obvious than it is now. Foehn winds would have greater effect, so possibly higher record temperatures. More valley frosts. Greater sunshine in some areas and less in others. Glaciers in the highlands.

East Anglia would be a desert.

Wouldn't there be a more pronounced West-East temperature difference? East colder and warmer in summer / winter and drier

Highly doubt that...
