I'll wear jeans and a hoodie at 32 F, maybe a hat if it's windy.

I wear a headband that covers my ears when it gets to be low 40's F and below. My ears always end up hurting really badly when I'm out in the cold if they aren't covered.

If it's really cold or windy I put my coat hood up. I usually have my hair up in a ponytail, so wearing a regular winter hat is a bit odd with the bump in the back and my hair matted against my neck.

I got a significant case of frostbitten fingers when I was kid, so my hands are pretty sensitive to cold--I'll be wearing gloves at 45F or lower.

Gentlemen always wear hats outdoors, type of hat depending on the weather and local culture.

I only wear a toque type hat when working on my car in the garage in winter, though, and that one is a an olive drab billed military style ("Radar O'Reilly" hat).

In the XXI century, gentlemen do NOT wear hats.

Whatever your hat was, a fedora, baseball cap, beanie or top hat - leave it at home. The 21st century gentleman wears a casual (but not too skinny) suit, a casual tie and a scarf.

And leave your jeans at home.

This is how the world works, baby. We were talking about gentlemen, not clubbing.
