Miami is tropical, it won't really have snow, but Chicago is northern, and can get snow in May. Vote is Chicago.

Miami is neither tropical nor sub tropical it fits into the semi-tropical category. yes it has snowed in Miami but it has never accumulated which is the premise here. you must also remember that snow fall did not occur the week of new year. so if your going to pick about how Chicago has never experienced snow on the last week of may than I can pick about the fact that is has never happened within a week of new years.

Miami IS tropical by koppen standerds. No denying that. But it does experience cold fronts has seen a trace of snow and has a few cold (ie low 39 high 58) days every winter

Because of this I would consider it a TRANSITIONAL climate.

For example. Last week we had a few days with high 80 and low 70. But this week two days have been in the 40s and there have been highs in the 60s for the last four days.

It is 64 and sunny right now at 12:30pm

Since both scenarios are so unlikely that neither one of them has ever occurred before, I will just pick a random selection: snow in Miami on New Year's Day. Actually it might be the right choice, since Miami has had a trace of snowfall accumulation before, and since New Year's Day is right around the coldest time of year.

I can't believe so many people voted for Chicago. Snow in late May is just not a thing that really happens. It can hypothetically happen, but arguably its more likely for Miami to receive snow in mid-winter as it CAN get chilly down there. I remember in January 2010 we had a frost and Kendall reported snow flurries. Get a good enough cold front and there's no reason why it can't happen in Miami Beach. Also, I don't get why OP specified Miami Beach itself. Isn't Miami unlikely enough? lol might as well have said Brickell or Homestead then. Either way, either scenario is a snowball's chance in hell, pun intended.

You're right. Crap.

Snow after May 15th happened...ZERO times.
Snow before May 15th happened in 34 different years

Get that Polar Jet Stream to really push hard south in middle of winter and maybe Miami is the better chance. Then again... same thing for end of May but the Polar Jet is weaker by then
