Bradford, my nearest station giving sunshine hours, averages 34 hours for December out of about 200 possible, meaning it is overcast about 83% of the time.

Christmas day has had 6 hours of sun in the last 4 years here so average of 1.5 hours a day or 21% of the daylight time. 79% of the time is cloudy.

2012: Cloudy (0.7 hrs)
2011: Sunny (8.6 hrs)
2010: Cloudy (0 hr)
2009: Sunny (7.1 hrs)
2008: Cloudy (0 hr)
2007: Cloudy (0.2 hr)
2006: Sunny (7.3 hr)


So about 1/2 which makes sense as we avg around 50% sun in Dec

I don't know. Seems 50/50 to me. So I'll go back and look at the weather history... since 2000, high/low, in C, plus conditions:

2012: 7/0, cloudy
2011: 9/-4, mostly sunny
2010: -1/-3. cloudy, snow
2009: 5/-5, cloudy, rain
2008: 16/-3, cloudy, rain
2007: 9/-1, sunny
2006: 9/-1, cloudy, rain
2005: 10/-4, cloudy, rain
2004: -1/-7, sunny
2003: 5/-1, sunny
2002: 5/-1, cloudy, snow
2001: 4/-2, mostly sunny
2000: -4/-9, sunny

Yeah, seems about even.

High/Low (celsius) since 2001. Less than half the days featured at least a few hours of sunshine. Generally more on the cloudy side.

2012: 3/-3, cloudy, snow, freezing rain
2011: 6/-7, partly cloudy
2010: -1/-8, mostly cloudy
2009: 2/-6, cloudy
2008: 11/-7, mostly sunny
2007: 3/-2, cloudy
2006: 3/-4, AM sun, PM rain
2005: 5/-7, rain
2004: -3/-10, sunny
2003: 4/-1, cloudy
2002: 0/-2, snow
2001: 2/-6, sunny

Generally on the sunny side, I estimate 20-25% of days are cloudy.

I don't have specific data for christmas but on average 21.6 days of all days in December have a cloudcover of at least 6 octas in my hometown, so its very likely.
I guess about 75-80% of all christmas days are cloudy here.
