What is the coldest water temperature you have swum in.

For me, its 51 F (11 C) at Lake Powell, AZ in early April. I was not able to hang on for more than 25 minutes. On getting out, my body felt so cold. I thought Arizona was a year round hot state, and still wonder why the water was so chilly .

18C.. or about 65F in England in July. That's about the lowest I will swim in, unless it's hot outside to compensate

Arizona is only hot from about April-November. The winters are quite chilly.

It was 40F, 4.4C, and a very short swim. Watson lake at 8,000 feet in the Sierras, off highway 50 near Lake Tahoe. It is only open after about July 4th when the ice melts and snow is cleared enough to get up the road.

10 C / 50 F on an unseasonably hot day in early spring. At the time I didn't understand the notion of thermal inertia and was surprised that the water was ice cold. I only stayed in for maybe two minutes. Needless to say I was the only one swimming. I was aching all over when I got out.

Apparently there's a tradition among Antarctic researchers to go swimming off the coast of Antarctica - without the aid of a wetsuit, or anything else for that matter! The water can be below freezing due to the salinity.

That was about 15°C/59°F the 1st October 2011, when we had a day like in midsummer with a high of 27°C/80°F, beating all previous records by 3 degrees (C) or 6 F.

I went in the water wearing nothing at all- got out after about 5 minutes because it began to feel quite cold after a while.

I've been in cooler water temperatures as well but only with the feet.
