Lol that's the day after I get there. But it should warm back up quickly. It'll be crazy going from -20C here on Monday to 25C in Florida on Friday.

I am so glad I'm home on break instead of in Minneapolis. The Governor of Minnesota canceled all public k-12 schools throughout the state because of the cold predicted Monday morning. I think with wind chill it is supposed to get around -60 F(-51 C) in the Twin Cities

Dangerous weather coming to a good chunk of the nation. Here's a piece in the WaPo about this event, seems the entire polar vortex is paying us a visit, not just a slice of bitter cold. Stunning amounts of natural gas, oil, and electricity are going to be consumed for heating purposes.

I don't know how far it is, as the crow flies, between Plattsburgh, NY where I attended college and Floyd, VA where I currently live but it is disheartening to see on the second map in the OP that the turquoise band shows that the low temp of about 2F will be about the same.

I'll spend much of the warmer hours of this afternoon bringing firewood from the big stack in the back yard around to the front porch for easy access in order to keep a good fire going 'round the clock.

Feels weird to say this, but this looks like the worst arctic outbreak in the South since February 1996, but in terms of high temperatures it looks like the worst since December 1989. Highs of 8 forecasted in Nashville, 14 in Memphis, 15 in Huntsville, and 19 in Birmingham.

No subzero temps in NYC.

I really hope it stays that way for the rest of the winter.
