New Orleans hit 47F on April 15th while International Falls hit 5F
And in other news, freezing rain causes havoc for LA's Tuesday afternoon rush hour!

Check out the about face the Euro did.... Major uncertainty for later next week, though the GFS is calling for a horrible cut off low to meander it's way across the US....

No torch or warm pattern in sight for the East yet. We've been mostly seasonable so far with some pops and drops but the overall pattern hasn't and isn't favoring well above normal temps consistently East of the Mississippi yet.

Here's the 8-10 day outlook 500mb mean from the 3 models. Take note this setup = Warm in Western U.S AND Canada.. Cool in Eastern U.S.

http://mp1.met.psu.edu/~fxg1/CMCNA_0z/hgtcomp.html

And here's HPC long range discussion..

In short and English... they are saying this Trough & Upper Level Low will be forced Eastward and a Rex Block developswith a warm West and Canada which leads to a cooler Eastern U.S. Kicker is the influx of Gulf moisture will ride up the East and keep us in a unsettled pattern next 1-2 weeks.

NWS WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER COLLEGE PARK MD
149 AM EDT WED APR 23 2014

THE CLOSED TROUGH/LOW SHOULD SUBSEQUENTLY BE FORCED GRADUALLY EASTWARD ACROSS THE EAST-CENTRAL US NEXT MON-WED DAYS 5-7 IN A DEVELOPING REX BLOCK SETUP AS WARMING RIDGES BUILD STRONGLY UPSTREAM OVER THE WRN US AND OVERTOP OVER S-CENTRAL CANADA. THIS ALL OCCURS THEN AS A LEAD NERN US/CANADIAN MARITIME CLOSED LOWLOSES INFLUENCE. SLOW WRAPPED SYSTEM TRANSLATION AND INCREASINGLY DEEP MOISTURE INFLUX FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO THEN WRN ATLANTIC SHOULD FUEL A WIDESPREAD CONVECTIVE AND OVERRUNNING HEAVY RAINFALL THREAT SPREADING SLOWLY ACROSS THE EAST-CENTRAL TO ERN US.

You are on the bottom edge of the really cold airmass. South of you is just seasonably cool slightly below normal.

A look at the current 850mb temps with 500mb Heights and the actual departure from normal surface temps for the hour. Notice the central ridge pop to Canada creating a surge of heat northwards and above normal temps.

This is the look I am thinking for Summer. Sorry if I sound like a parakeet. Its just my opinion in how the setup could be.

But won't cooler temperatures maybe mean higher humidity? Will the setup allow for Gulf air to come to Kentucky?
