Default Windstorms

Just looking at the NOAA website and was amazed to see the forecast for Sunday night-Tuesday in the Pacific Northwest.
Oregon Coast is supposed to get BATTERED!
Gale Warnings....NOW
Storm Warnings.....tomorrow....and a
Hurricane Force Windstorm........after that.
100 mph winds for Florence to Cannon Beach and Seaside and ocean waves of 35-45 FEET!
WOW!!
It IS "that" time of year!
Also.....they are forecasting HUGE rainfall totals into the Olympic Mtns. of WA. with 8-10 inches of rain and a LOT in the Cascades too.......all this after 2-3 FEET of snow!
Looks like folks better be ready, build an ark....FAST or evacuate to the airport with a ticket to Maui......QUICK!
Unless you ARE really ready for the slopes.

You know, I remember seeing the Pacific Northwest get slammed with a sort of hurricane not too long ago. Isn't that sort of rare or have I missed it in the past? Oh and the news of that isn't good for them, BUT unfortunately we get their weather a few days later. It all keeps wandering eastward. They're already predicting snow for us out of what is hitting them on the coast now.

Uh, living up here in the Pacific Northwest is a treat in the winter (NOT!!!!!), what you said is exactly what is happening, ah, it is still snowing where I live, but soon that'll become freezing rain, than 1-3 inches of rain and winds beyond belief on top of 3 feet of snow, creating power outages I am sure, heck, it is "browning" out at my place right now (outside of Vancouver, BC)

Ken, it does look like your winds are awful. They mentioned that on the news tonight. What is "browning"?

A brown out is a lowering of AC power voltage for some period of time. Brownouts can be very harmful to electronic equipment if sustained for long periods. Brownouts can cause flickering or a dimming on screen, and the computer may experience intermittent problems as a result.
brownout: Definition and Much More from Answers.com

I said "browning" out because at the time I was typing that post the lights were flickering, probably due to the weight of the snow and freezing rain. Anyways, it is STILL snowing where I live, and we are expecting another 5 or 6 inches before the night is finished adding on to the 10 inches or so we already have. Also, the freezing rain will be moving in shortly, and after midnight or so it will all change to rain (which I mentioned above, but apparently we could get 3 INCHES of rain by Monday night). Tomorrow the morning commute will be a disaster, hopefully I will have no school. Mentioned on the news? Really, well the storms in the Great Lakes region, as well as the storms in the Maritimes and New England were all mentioned considering how bad they are. Jammie do you live in South Dakota?? How are you dealing with all that cold? What is the windchill like, -20F?

Sorry for double posting, but last year all of November was like this, and than we had a week or so of incredibly cold (for here) temperatures during the last week of November and the first week of December. One day I remember walkign around and it was around 0F and with windchill sitting sround -20F which was defineately record cold for our location. Apparently after these storms are done by Wednesday we will cool down again, but with La Nina occuring I expected this kind of weather, heck, I am excited for it (better than what we normally have, in my opinion [which is light rain and clouds with the odd day of sunshine from November through April]).

Ken,
I too live outside of Vancouver, BC........on the US side though.
Another 3 inches of snow here today, then sleet and now its all rain.
6" snow total but they predict 3-6" of rain and winds to 60 mph here tomorrow......or should I say 90 kilometers/hour or so for you Cannucks? LOL
If the power goes out here AGAIN....for another 36 hours, like it did a few weeks ago.....I WILL scream!

I am on the Oregon coast and it's happening now. The wind is making a lot of noise around here but that's all except for the rain. We've had about 2 inches of rain today from the last report I heard. I'm in the Coos Bay/North Bend area. It won't be too bad as long as the power stays on. We do get storms with wind and rain every year.

It's a good time to stay inside and read a book or this forum.

Waterlily, are you getting the hurricane force winds that were predicted? It doesn't look like your weather is nice at all right now. They're also talking about your storm heading in our direction and of course, it'll be snow if it gets here.

Ken, right now our temps are almost bearable. We're actually supposed to have 38 degrees today and a bit above that tomorrow. We do get horrific cold here though. Our record was 55 below and that was actual temps. It's kind of hard to gauge and compare because they've changed their windchill charts, but it's not unusual for us to have 30 or 40 below with windchills. My aches and pains are telling me I need some warmth and sunshine. But luckily, the sun is shining here. I know that title is generally used for Florida, but at one time So. Dak. actually had two nicknames~the Sunshine State and the Rushmore State. We do get a lot of sunny days here considering we have some rough winters.

The winds have gusts that are pretty strong. I have no way to measure it and the power is off here now. The elecricty is knocked out from the winds somehow.I have a laptop with a battery so I can still get online. There not as much rain today, but the wind oh boy!
Still people are out and about in town.
