I know I've posted this before, but I never stop being impressed by the horror show that was the first 12 days of July 2012 in Edinburgh. This is not even 1% of total possible sun for that period - if there are any stats for anywhere in the world that can beat this in the middle of summer, never mind a major city, then I'd be interested in seeing them.

Of course it does. We are not a win-swept oceanic island surrounded by 13C warm waters.

Campbell doesn't quite make it - its lowest 12-day total in a summer month is 2.3 hrs, 1.9 hrs for 11 days and just 0.7 hrs in 10 days. On longer timescales, it has some pretty horrible numbers, especially in the colder months.

About 10 days with the sun being completely blocked for 3 days straight. Rainy season is plain annoying.

We can get some cloudy weather in Buxton.

1st - 24th June 2012 had just 48 hours of sun.
1st - 17th December 2011 had just 7.4 hours of sun.

Longest run of days with literally no sun I could find since 2009 was 7 days in a row in January 2011 and again in February 2011.

However, there were lots of occasions in winter where we had 8-12 days where there was only 2 hours of sun.

We're in a cloudy period now actually, only 5.05 hours of sun so far this April, 1 hour a day, with rain or drizzle every day.

For Chicago

Quote:
What is the longest consecutive number of cloudy days on record in Chicago?

Paula, Phoenix

Dear Paula,

We posed this question to Frank Wachowski, keeper of Chicago’s sunshine records. Wachowski reported that the city’s longest sunless stretch was a dismal 12-day period from December 29, 1991-January 9, 1992. The persistent cloud cover not only held down daytime high temperatures but also prevented heat loss at night so temperatures during this period varied just 14 degrees from 30 to 44. The city’s cloudiest month on record was November, 1985 averaging just 16 percent of possible sunshine (42 percent is normal) based on records dating back to 1893. In stark contrast was July 1916 with 95 percent of its possible sunshine including 24 totally sunny days, a month that would even give sunny Phoenix a run for its money

5 days of back to back overcast this April so far. Looking outside is like watching an old black and white telly. Crappest April on record.

Then June 30th through July 3rd, again, rainy. 10 out of 11 consecutive days with rain is quite remarkable here, and sure makes for lousy summer weather.
Pittsburgh had a very lousy summer last summer with the constant RAIN. Winters here are always horribly dreary, but add to the mix a lousy summer, and that is one ****-show of a year! And I do recall Hurricane Sandy having the longest stretch of gloom with not a hint of sun for 10 days straight. Blah.

I don't know for sure but I'd be surprised if there has ever been more than 4 or 5 completely overcast days in a row recorded in Perth. I doubt it has ever continuously rained for more than 24 hours here but from personal experience I have been in Singapore where it rained continuously for 3 days.
