I assume George gave up on beating his dead horse about a brutal polar vortex invasion of Europe. None of the models have shown any cold showing up in Europe for the entire month. It was all hype by cold lovers.
Yea, I didn't expect anywhere in southern Italy to be so wet. I haven't seen a Mediterranean climate be so hot and so wet at the same time.
well, mediterranean climates usually have wet winters, but that's just a pretty high value. Italy is quite rainy from center to south though, relatively. I don't know if there is an average precipitation map somewhere. I might very well be in one of the driest zones.
The funny things is that many southerners complain about the rain here, whereas it really does not rain often.ut the rain here, whereas it really does not rain often.
Weather today reminded me of London. Low of 65 F and high of 68 F, with heavy rain all day. No wonder the Brits have such a lousy country. I can't do anything in this weather!
Sounds more like NZ weather. UK folks I know here, have often commented that sort of rain which is common here, isn't common there.

That was uncalled for. I don't like oceanic climates either, but when I was in London some 16 years ago, I had the time of my life. The city was amazing, and the people there know how to party

Warning for extreme weather: Windstorm ("Tor") in effect along the coast of Norway from S of Bergen to well north of Trondheim. It has now hit land.
So far at Kråkenes lighthouse (N of Bergen and SW of Trondheim) a new record for sustained windspeed: 48.9 m/s = 176 km/h
Tor will follow the coast NE. My region to be hit later this night, with max wind around midnight. Forecast for Halten and Sula lghth is up to 37 m/s = 133 km/h (hurricane) at midnight.
Forecast for Trondheim, well into the fjord and sheltered by mountains, hills etc, is max of 19 m/s = 68 km/h.

George, remember our old controversy about sunny hours? I've been working on it and I think I'm close to solving the "mystery" around sunny Chicago vs. Warsaw. Once I complete my research, will you be interested in my conclusions?

Quite windy here too (for our standards) with 35 km/h average wind speed and gusts up to 60 km/h. Heavy rain is also forecasted this afternoon when the cold front will pass through,

Didn't get quite that windy. Highest sustained wind speed in Trondheim (Voll) was 54 km/h, strongest gust was 100 km/h. Out at the airport, a more flat area. the highest sustained wind speed was 61 km/h and strongest gust 101 km/h.
Along the unsheltered outer seabord: Halten lighth: Highest sustained wind: 97 km/h (so not nearly as strong wind as forecasted) and strongest gust 151 km/h. http://www.infoclimat.fr/observation...fyr/01240.html
Stronger wind a little further SW near Ålesund: Svinøy lighth: Up to 119 km/h sustained wind and strongest gust 187 km/h. Still nothing compares to Kråkenes with strongest gust 223 km/h. That seems to have blown apart the wind recorder, no recording after that. http://www.infoclimat.fr/observation...nes/01203.html

Good to hear from you Vars. Yes I am interested in hearing your conclusions!
Btw this is called a cross polar flow. Right into the Midwest and guess where else?

Same story here.
Sustained 30-35 kph winds with huge gusts that caused windows to slam themselves closed:
