I'd normally say that 1C either side is 'about' average for the time of year, but the way this summer is going, you've got to take what you can!

Remember those are just the most recent model forecast runs of Mean temp anomalies. Even so, the 11-15 barely shows 0.5C+ positive anomaly for England.

I think you mentioned that your summers began to take a turn for the worse in 2007?

In Northern England, August 2007 was an okay month - it was drier than average, sunnier than average and temperatures were average. Maybe August will prove to be the best month this year as well.

If this keeps up, then the UK should go on a palm planting spree and look like San Francisco. You will never get frost again, and be very very lush in winter. It is worth it just to have a few degrees off of your averages in summer.

I nailed your forecast by using sea ice in spring. Though in reality it has to do with the constantly negative summer AO also.

And that wavier jetstream means you know what for the Southeast US in winter? Try and guess. I will give you a clue: 2014 and 2015.

I mentioned a while ago how based on old weather records it seemed back in the 1700's and 1800's that mostly the jetstream didn't take crazy dips except in far and few between winters. Now it seems every winter gets the extreme dips.

I think now it's time to say this summer is a write off, and start looking forward to spring 2017!

Lol you are as pessimistic as me sometimes. Don't write it off just yet. It's only early July, and those models are only reliable up to 5 to 7 days out. You can certainly start having decent weather next week or the week after. Nature likes to keep annual averages close to the mean, except for Seattle argh. So maybe it will start doing that soon.

At least when summer ends, you don't have to fret about really cold weather coming at you where you live.

There are thousands of palm trees in London, but most have only been planted in the last 10-15 years or so. Give it another 20-30 years and there will be CIDPs towering over suburban houses.

August was the best month of 2007 here too, but that was more a case of it being the least bad, rather than it actually being good.

Embrace your cooler summers then as you may now be heading into San Francisco type climate. Nice April weather in SF, but their summers are lousy. Fall is nice there too. But the city is covered in very subtropical looking foliage which would be worth it.
