Maps as this are very common this winter. Southern Norway colder than northern Norway! Southern Sweden colder than northern Sweden! Southern Russia colder than northern Russia! Greece colder than Britain and Ireland! Serbia, Bulgaria and Hungary colder than Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Latvia! Romania colder than Russia! This winter in Ireland is very mild, warmer than average I think. Most below average this winter is in Southeast Europe. For example temperature in December 2016 in Serbia was 1-2c below average and in January 2017 was around 5c below average. In many towns in Serbia, January 2017 is colder than February 2012! In my town average temperature in February 2012 was -4,5c, and in January 2017 is -5,1c.
The UK and Ireland can often be warmer that Greece in the winter time.

I don't know about often. Maybe sometimes, when Greece gets those Balkan cold snaps, and also if you are comparing the UK/Ireland to places in Greece with higher elevations, or to northern Greece. Thessaloniki in northern Greece average high Dec:11C, Jan: 9C, and Feb 11C.

Yes it depends on 'local' weather conditions, parts of Greece can get very cold in the Winter, all I am saying is that its not really an extraordinary thing and has happened plenty of times before.
12 degrees Centigrade here this afternoon with sunny spells, the sun is beginning to make some leeway back into the centre of the sky! 26 degrees above the horizon today (the winter low is 15.5 degrees above the horizon).
