North America has essentially had the same weather pattern since last September (with the exception of a few months in Spring). It has produced amazing weather out west. As senior Environment Canada climatologist, David Phillips, was saying the other day, we haven't really had "weather" in BC for a long time. He defines "weather" as something other than warmth and sunshine.

August can have the WORST heat waves here (The entire month of Aug 2000, 2007, 2010, 2011). With no extreme heat in the forecast, the window for triple digits is closing fast, but I wouldn't say were safe yet. btw, everyone knows about 3 consecutive days if 90s is a heat wave in the NE, but what is it in the south? For the Mid South I would think it's like 2-3 days of 100s, but I can't find an official definition.

I believe it's a national thing regarding 3 days of 90s, I could be wrong! But the Heat Advisory criteria is what differs for each region.

This is Heat "Advisory" criteria (NOT Heat Warning)

So places with an average high in the 90s are never officially considered to have a "heat wave"? They don't really exist in Florida, but the concept would still seem valid somewhere like Dallas.

August 2011 was horrible here. This was the hottest single month on record. The average high was 101 F and there was only 0.76 inches of rain.

Fortunately, Tropical Storm Lee came in early September bringing much needed rain and some cooler temperatures.

Yeah, other than a few storms that brought flooding in the interior we haven't really had much.

Interesting... Image on the right is the current Radar... here we are again... NorthWest CT & Western MA continuing the July trend of precip. Wonder if the hills are enhancing it.

Saw lots of lightning flashes, really dark sky at sunset. But no thunder or rain
