High was 26C/79F in Chicago today. Much chillier at the beaches

It was warmer in the suburbs (as high as 29C)

It's been a warm open to June here

But cool overall the next few days, especially near the lakeshore

Then better

and even better

Here are the 500mb heights

Struggling to reach 70s here most of Wed-Thurs. Might hit for an hour or two. Otherwise rain, clouds, low diurnal range is the theme. Boring! But better than 80s (for me).

Does anyone know whats the most consecutive days with sun around here since May 1st? Seems like its so hard to be sunny for a few days straight. This year is going to suck for the garden.

Minimum temps this morning. I don't know how people deal with 70s for minimums. I'd be in a bad mood all day... Ugh.

My Max yesterday was 64. Low this morning 61. Not much movement.

Weak tstorm atm. Again.

Turns out it was mostly IC lightning last night. The sound of thunder was constant and lasted more than one hour as multiple cells went through the area. I saw a very long cloud-ground strike. It lasted maybe 3 seconds, with 7-8 consecutive strikes. All in all rather disappointing. That dying mid-afternoon MCS probably ate a lot of the available energy.

Still, the southeastern suburbs got hit by monster hail, after the NW suburbs the day before:

I believe this is the cell that gave the monster hail:

I like humid weather, partly because it's unusual here. Usually, the dew point maxes out around 72°F here. Warmest I've seen was 75°F. I want plenty of rain (from thunderstorms) to keep the landscape lush. Though I also want bouts of dry heat and low dew points.
