I've lived all over the UK, and I have to say: my heart is in the rural south (emphasis on rural - I don't like crowded urban areas, anywhere). Everything in the north, the gloomy landscape, lack of colour, cold wet weather, old stone buildings, dull architecture, etc... is the antithesis of everything I stand for.
I'm the complete opposite! My time in the south has really made me appreciate where I'm from. But then I am from one of the nicest cities in the country, and I haven't lived in the finest examples of the south.
As for the weather, I don't think there's that much of a difference. Everywhere in this country is pretty bad, although Portsmouth was better for the extra sun. Go inland though and its hardly any different. Its just the dirty air around London that helps keep the extra heat in summer
If I had to move again, I'd go abroad somewhere. I'd love to go live in Palma again.
They drive some **** cars in Finland. Is is this from the 1980's
Those were taken last summer. But what can be expected from a city that had 20% unemployment until recently, a chronic lack of white-collar jobs and a quadruple chance of young men being socially excluded than the country average?
The Lahti area has the highest unemployment rate in the +100k cities in Scandinavia (by far, Malmö is at less than 15% now), in Finland the worst level of education of 25 year olds and the clearly highest level of drug abuse and crime.
As dunno suggested earlier, Lahti is the Middlesborough of Finland. And as I'm from Helsinki, I automatically hate all of them, it's in my genes.
Got tired thinking of Lahti, so I went down and bought my first ice cream for the summer!
A mint-vanilla ice with an ice cream sandwich, yummy!
edit: on a completely different note, have you ever gotten death threats or similar on an internet forum? A Finnish forum I frequent there's been a lot of discussion about the moderation recently, and one moderator came forward that people frequently (several times a month) send death threats, or even IRL come forward asking if the moderator knows certain posters' names and adresses, so they could visit and beat the person up. The police have several times contacted the administration if legal action should be taken. Ever experienced anything like this? I guess the Internet is serious business after all, but I find this a bit disturbing.
