I'm happy to say that whenever I've worked in retail or catering, I've never been treated in such a disrespectful manner. How rude. Seems to me that customers in the US believe they are always right and can say whatever they want to employees.

I know smart people who work in 'low-grade' jobs. A few of them have mad bad decisions in the past and didn't end up there on purpose, and others are actually content with their lot and don't desire to work like a slave just to earn lots. Heck, I have a friend who got really bad grades in school, works at a supermarket, but he is one of the few people I know that I can engage in in-depth discussions with. He is probably the smartest guy I know. He just didn't put the effort into school, due to laziness - but he's happy and enjoys life. Then I see people who work in professional offices who act like dumbasses and don't know their ass from their elbow, work 12 hours a day to pay off their mortgage and generally lead miserable lives.
Yeah, people like the people you describe are typically the ones who think success is having the most money and possessions as opposed to being happy.

If I'm making 10 million a year but I'm miserable, am I really successful?

You're more likely to be miserable if you're poor.

That's probably generally true, but not always the case.

Just saying it's not uncommon to have a preference. Perhaps it's far less common to make that preference known, but not unheard of at all.

That's actually not true. The most miserable countries are the richer ones.

It's hard to ascertain the happiness of a country, but some studies try to do this. I'm pretty sure the happiest ones have been the Scandinavian countries. Traditionally prosperous, equitable, cohesive societies.

I bet a lot of Africans without adequate food or water aren't too happy.

That's too cliché.

People in the developed world are more likely to commit suicide or be clinically depressed. People in poorer countries can be happy with much less than we have. Even having plentiful food for a week can make ''Africans'' very happy where they don't have the materialistic culture we do,

Well, boo hoo. I have no sympathy for those in developed countries who have all their needs met and are depressed. Mere survival won't do it for me when it comes to happiness, though.

You're 17 years old and know nothing of life? Please get back to me when you have experience in the real world.
