I think this is a really fun game. It's a real-world exercise in figuring out where you are. BBC set it up.

BBC - Travel - How well do you know the world? Play Geoguessr to find out!

I hope we can get a better version of it soon, but as it is, try it out if you like knowing more about different places on Earth.

It's nice (a bit too broad though - should stick with one region than worldwide), but I thought it will be weather related since you asked here.

I didn't know where to put it. For me, it kind of fits in a weather-related forum. the plants growing there are related to the climate. If you check out the shadow of the camera, it gives you an idea where it is (northern or southern hemisphere, tropics or high latitudes).

The soils, the landscapes, how the road was built, the warning signs on the roads, erosion patterns, all give clues to climate, geology and other things. Once you figure out which side of the road they drive on, it's a clue. Also whether they do metric or imperial. And what language the signs are in. To me it's fascinating. Sometimes you find a sign that gives an obvious clue once you look it up.

Yes how silly, it gives this message to UK viewers:

We're sorry but this site is not accessible from the UK as it is part of our international service and is not funded by the licence fee. It is run commercially by BBC Worldwide, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the BBC, the profits made from it go back to BBC programme-makers to help fund great new BBC programmes. You can find out more about BBC Worldwide and its digital activities at BBC Worldwide.

Up the arse with their licence fee anyway.

1. I had guessed Sweden or Finland in all honesty, though I did move ahead to see a road sign in a Nordic language, thus confirming my first thoughts. I put it in about central Sweden.. it was 116km off. That one was too easy.

2. I guessed Russia, but it was Odessa, Ukraine. Not fair.. too many km off but not enough obvious visual difference. The construction styles and Cyrillic gave it away, though.

3. My guess: Southern Utah... it was southeastern Wyoming.

4. My guess: Finland: it was about 2000m away in Russia. No road signs this time.

5. I see more Cyrillic characters on a rural road sign, so I guessed Russia again and was 533 km away.

I got 12,028 points.
