It's June, and we're still getting possible frost warnings at night...and instructions to cover tender vegetation. Ugh. Such a short summer up here.

First week of September is our hottest average temperature but we can have a heat wave (highs of 90 F +) anywhere from late April through the middle of October.

When ever the lightening bugs peak breeding week is down by the park where I walk the boys at night. It's alive with little flashing lights from the ground to the top of the trees. Be there at midnight and it's magic

In my area, the period when the average highs are highest is from August 13 to August 22 (94 F). This would also be close to my ideal peak for summer.

Late July through early August, which is when it is here already. I DO wish that summer would start a little bit earlier than it does, but summers here last through mid September and sometimes even spill into the later half of the month and early October during Indian Summers.

In the southern hemisphere (or Sydney), it's around January 1-10th.

End of June followed by a slightly more moderate rainy season, like in Northern India only without the extremes of heat.

Sometime in mid-August, prefer the peak of the heat to occur well after the solstice but not so much that the seasons are too out of kilter with the sun.

I've found over the years that I'm wired for earlier seasons, particularly when it comes to summer and autumn. I like for things to really warm up in May and for warmth to peak in mid to late June, with a very noticeable cooling coming around August. The temperatures would track the daylight, essentially. It just seems right for the warmest time of year to be around the solstice.
