Happy with the cooler and dryer weather tonight. Nice reprieve from the heat and humidity. Monday only has a forecast high of 64 F/18 C.

It's fun looking back at seasonal threads to see what the weather was like.

I would love to see the summer threads from 2007-2012. There were probably hardly any posters back then at the start, but if we had those summers now, this forum would go into meltdown.

I would probably have drunken myself crazy to death, MeteoMan would have smashed and merged himself into his keyboard, Owen would have left for the US for good, dunno would have considered following Owen

Well I was around then and so was MeteoMan (as Weatherfan2). I don't remember being very annoyed as I didn't care about summer as much and was more focused on winter. After 2013 and 2014 though, a summer like 2011 would sicken me. I'd take a warm summer over a cold winter these days.

I guess 2007 and 2008 were the real horror shows. 2012 was pretty awful as well but the others were not ridiculously bad.. I used to lurk on this forum as far back as 2011 I think? It certainly wasn't very busy on here back then, but yeah.

I guess the winters in the period were much better (for cold lovers) than our recent ones, though

2007 was exceptionally wet but 2012 was colder I think. We did reach 29C in 2007 but in 2012 only 27C - and that was in May.

Yeah it wasn't as busy. Winters were better for myself since I like snow.

Every summer here is hot & humid by my standards. It's only a matter of whether it's extremely hot (e.g., 2012), or not as hot (but still hot), like 2009. Wishing for hotter summers here is totally pointless, so few people do it. On the other hand, wishing for a cold winter can be purposeful, since for snow lovers like me, it could mean a lot more snow. Winters are truly variable here. Summers, in comparison, really aren't.

I vaguely remember 2007 and just remember the constant rain and cloud. I wasn't really that interested in the weather back then, but I certainly remember it sticking out and everyone talking about how messed up the summer was.

Hah, well our summers can be quite variable. We can have an average max for July of below 21C or 28C as the extremes here. That is the difference between most days feeling chilly and most days feeling warm and sunny.

Winters will always feel relatively mild, bar the odd shocker such as 2010, which still had a mean above 0C and would be considered mild by American standards.

Spent June 2007 in the Midlands. Was good there. Warm and sunny first third, middle third we had 12 thunderstorms in 8 days, yes, 12 in 8 days including a couple of right smashers. And the wet and cooler in the final third. But July I was back in fuxton and it was just constant rain and 15°C every single day and no thunderstorms. August drier but cool.

Wow, our forecast for the first meteorological day of summer is looking quite good. High of 62 F / 17 C with rain.

Weather that cool just does not happen here in summer. I bet there are very few days in meteorological summer in our entire weather history that have been that cool (in terms of maximum temperature).

2010 seems impressive. Your summers are definitely more variable. That alone makes them more interesting. Predictable weather (especially when it's undesirable) is rather uninteresting.

I don't really mind London's midsummer weather, but I'm glad that even a cool summer here isn't something most people would complain about. And the warmth (say average highs warmer than 72°F) lasts longer here. I think...average high passed 72°F (22°C) on the 23rd less than a week ago. Goes below 72°F almost exactly four months later, on September 23. So four good months. Much of the month has been well above average, but it's usually somewhat closer to normal.
