Last year, it had been 8 years since a system with hurricane-status made landfall. Brilliant comparison. TWC is s***ty in general, but I have yet to spot an error in any of their climatology articles.
Of course they look like shacks from the air. Real shacks may be totally unintelligible that high up.
There are actually houses at the end of the runway we were like 200 feet up.
I don't think Florida will get hit but all this above average rain is suspicious.

The only thing I can think of is that you thought they were shacks because they were wooden houses which isn't what you're used. Most of the detached houses in the Northeast US are wood, cheap or expensive.
I grew up in the Keys. When I was young, we would get one, maybe two tropical depressions/storms each year. Maybe (MAYBE) one hurricane every two or three years. And it was almost always a category 1 hurricane.
When I left for Las Vegas (which I regret every day), we were getting five to 10 tropical depressions/storms each year and three to five hurricanes. And they were category two and three.
Will Florida get a direct hit this year? It's impossible to say accurately. But it's only a matter of time before a monster storm collides with my home town, wiping it off the map. I 90% expect to see this in my lifetime.
Because the houses looked like shacks. I would definitely not visit that area!!
100 miles out only.
My goodness, New Jersey has some of the nicest suburbs in the country. You can't get the true feel of an area at an airport or up in a plane.
Back to the original topic, it's difficult to say. I'll go with yes. I hope I'm wrong.
