Not sure about other locations, but I guess the totals were significantly higher in the mountains/hills north of the city. Some stations there recorded 400 mm+ totals earlier this month.
I wonder if chicagogeorge is ready to see some flakes. LOL
This is not a forecast. Just a possibility based off the latest GFS outcome.
On the left is the atmosphere Friday night (Saturday 2am).
On the right is Saturday 8am
So basically there's lots of moisture Friday night and its below freezing down to at least 2000 feet. So that's showing snow. Actual Surface is 6.3C but because its below freezing that far down snow is mixing or evap cooling taking affect and its snowing... Big fat flakes or mixing with cold rain.
Then as night goes on the atmosphere drys out and surface drops to freezing.
Obviously another thing to consider is the ground temp. Cant expect much accumulation even with this scenario UNLESS it snows hard & long enough. Then it will
Graphs of temperature and precip for Lake Charles, LA so far this year.
A dry spring followed by a very wet summer. Well above average precip for the year to date, approaching the normal yearly average with 3 months left to go.
Hmm, interesting. Here are the temperature and precipitation charts for here. 61.19 inches of rain so far (already above annual average).
Interesting how there was more extremes in winter and spring months. I see near/at record cold in January and near/at record warm in January and February those days.. Looks like some days in June hit record cold but been mostly in normal range since. I love looking at those graphs.
I remember before NowData was available I spent hours putting it together for a couple locations.
We just broke a monthly record, September precipitation days. Old record was 23. 25 days this month (maybe one more today). It's not the kind of record I was hoping to break. A all-time record low would be better
Obviously... the month before and after I'm there are extremely stormy.
Alexandria, LA (as measured at the airport) has been a good bit drier than Lake Charles. However, the airport has been in a dry spot for some reason and most of the area has gotten a lot more precip. I measured 40.21 in my rain gauge so far this year.
